Storyline

Hapunan, a narrative-driven horror game, is deeply rooted in Filipino culture. Crafted using the Unity Game Engine, this unique experience was my first foray into game development. The story revolves around Niko, a diligent balut vendor who finds himself entangled in a perilous situation.

Initially, Niko’s quest to obtain a business permit escalates into something far more sinister. As he delves deeper, he uncovers a dark secret involving the Barangay Captain and his violent past. Throughout the journey, players are faced with tough decisions, confront hidden truths, and engage in intense battles to protect their loved ones.

The game seamlessly blends elements of suspense, action, and cultural heritage, offering an emotionally charged experience. Hapunan’s intricate narrative combines with gripping gameplay to create an unforgettable adventure.

Play Time and Controls

The gameplay experience typically lasts between 30 to 40 minutes, providing a concise yet engaging session.

Players can navigate using WASD keys for movement and Shift to run. The Left Click is used for interaction, while Right Click enables zooming. The Tab key opens or closes the inventory, and F is used to equip items. Space bar skips dialogue, and A/D cycles through inventory items. Esc pauses the game.

Resources and Personal Journey

The game features music credits from Bright One by Joey Burbs and LIGHTS by Alex Productions. Sound effects are sourced from Freesound (https://freesound.org/).

Maintaining a passion for game development despite the challenges, I’ve continued to push forward. Currently using a modest PC/laptop, I’ve learned to persevere despite frequent crashes. If Hapunan succeeds, I plan to invest in a new PC to enhance my future projects.
